Thanks to the Warriors and their 73 wins this NBA season was one of the most entertaining in years. That is why this NBA post season has been such a drag. We are not getting close games, even, as was the case in the Western Conference finals when the series goes seven.
A few weeks ago I saw one of the stations carrying the playoffs run a piece where they showed coaches saying over and over quote: "it's a make or miss league." It looks like that's playing out to the extreme in this post season, a Kevin Draper article on Deadspin today pointed out that the average margin of victory in these playoffs is 14.7 points per game. That is the highest margin in NBA history, a quarter of those have been by 25 points or more.
This might be the new normal because this is the poison we've picked thanks to the three point line, which I love, I am not trying to get rid of it. Having said that as teams become more dependent on the triple we are going to continue to see games, even in the playoffs, even when the talent is relatively equal, the scores are not. Shooting three's is fickle even sometimes for the great Steph Curry. The jumper giveth and the jumper taketh away.
With a little bit of luck, in the next few games of the finals, we will get a game where both teams are out there making the sweet sound of swish.
