APPLETON, Wis. (WGBA) -- Matt Erickson will return to manage the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for the 2020 season.

It will be the Appleton native's 10th year at the helm - a Midwest League record.

Erickson said he talked with Brewers manager Craig Counsell about potentially moving up to join the major league staff for this season, but ultimately he will stay in his current role.

"I've been a part of it on the field here at the A-ball level but I've also done some other things as far as advanced scouting," Erickson said. "Two years ago I was following the Boston Red Sox. I was at every game of the ALCS.

"I feel very fortunate to be a part of a great organization and do not take it lightly."

Erickson has led the Timber Rattlers to the playoffs in three of his nine seasons; his team won a Midwest League championship in 2012.
