Injuries are starting to take a heavy toll on the Green Bay Packers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter, the king of NFL scoops, reported on Twitter early Thursday afternoon that running back Eddie Lacy needs foot surgery and likely will be placed on injured reserve. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweeted the same:

The news comes just days after it was reported Lacy would miss "several weeks" of game action. Lacy had already been ruled out for Thursday night's game against the Chicago Bears.

Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Knile Davis, who the Packers picked up earlier this week, will be the likely starter.

The banged-up Packers also lost cornerback Sam Shields to injured reserve this week. He suffered a concussion Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Since NFL teams can only apply a "designated to return" tag to one player on injured reserve, one of either Shields or Lacy won't see the field again this season.
