The Packers are working on their green thumb and aiming to reduce the teams carbon foot print. The organization planting trees at Green Isle Park in Allouez through the First Downs for Trees program.
The idea for the program came from a classroom project. "It started back when one of our coach's daughter was doing a report for a college course and wanted to know what our carbon foot print was for our team to charter away games," said Aaron Popkey, Director of Public Affairs.
This year, the program donated 477 trees to 17 local communities throughout Brown County. The packers estimating the trees will provide total lifetime benefits of $2,325,825.
Two nurseries, Meacham Nursery and Leaves Inspired provided the trees. A combination of elm, maple, lilac, oak, honey locust and flowering crab trees are being planted.
Two corporate partners, SCA and Green Bay Packaging, Inc. provided to program funds.
