Jordy Nelson understands the importance of family. In a year where he has had to miss doing what he loves more than anything - playing football, family may mean even more this year at Christmastime.
As a kid, the now-injured Packers wide receiver understood the connection between family and Christmas. He had plenty of it.
"We were spoiled with living back home," said Nelson, who grew up in Kansas.
"We had probably three to four, five different Christmases...pretty spoiled."
He'll be working on spoiling his kids with their Christmas experience starting tonight.
"We'll go to Christmas Eve service, then do Christmas Day at the house. The in-laws are up. We'll have some friends over in the evening, then just hang out with family and friends, open up some presents and have some good fellowship."
His Christmas Eve already included joining healthy teammates who are preparing for the Arizona Cardinals.
"Today was a little longer day. We met maybe a little bit longer, do the meetings we (normally) do tomorrow, then meet Saturday down in Arizona as well," said Nelson.
Why the extra meetings Christmas Eve? So that the players can have Christmas Day off - a tradition with Mike McCarthy's Packers.
