The Sturgeon Bay Police officer who accidentally shot into a floor, injuring a Door County Sheriff's deputy has been identified.

On Monday, December 17, law enforcement in Sturgeon Bay responded to a domestic disturbance call involving a man with a knife.

Brian C. Crook, 26, of Sturgeon Bay, was arrested.

During the arrest, the tactical rifle carried by Officer Kyle Engebose, of the Sturgeon Bay Police Department, was discharged into the floor, police said.

The bullet fragments hit Door County Sheriff's deputy Mike Reeths in the upper left thigh, according to police. Deputy Reeths was taken to Door County Ministry Health Center and released later that day.

Crook was charged with threat to law enforcement, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct with use of a dangerous weapon.
