Trevor Hoffman came oh-so-close to becoming the latest former Milwaukee Brewers player to make the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Hoffman came just 34 votes shy of joining Ken Griffey, Jr. and Mike Piazza for the greatest individual honor the sport can bestow: induction into Cooperstown.

Hoffman was the first pitcher ever to reach 600 saves in a career, a mark he reached in Milwaukee. 47 of his 601 career saves came with the Brewers in 2009-10.

In all, he played for 18 years, spending parts of 16 seasons with San Diego along with a short career-starting stint in Florida.

He would have been the first-ever "pure reliever" to make the Hall on his first ballot.
