Former MLB umpire Gerry Davis - a one-time Appleton resident - and Bucks legend Sidney Moncrief were honored in Appleton Wednesday at the 55th annual Red Smith Sports Awards.

Davis, who has umpired more postseason games than any umpire in MLB history, was presented with the Red Smith Award. Moncrief - once playfully dubbed 'Sid the Squid' was honored with the Nice Guy Award.

Legendary Sportscaster Bob Costas was also a featured guest at the event. The former NBC Sports star said he feels it is important to support youth sports.

Money raised from the Red Smith Sports Awards goes to local sports and also helps to fund scholarships for local athletes.
