The formula for training camp injuries typically goes something like get a player back, then lose another.
And on Monday, the Packers welcomed back safety Kentrell Brice from a tweaked ankle. But corners Kevin King (shoulder) and Jaire Alexander (groin) did not practice.
But that presented an opportunity for rookie Josh Jackson, who got to go up against Davante Adams in team drills.
On one passing play, Adams took issue with Jackson's coverage deep, joking to defensive pass game coordinator Joe Whitt Jr., "this boy is grabbing me by my chest — Stop this (stuff) now!"
"They got their own jersey. I don't know why they want mine," Adams joked after practice. "But Josh has been doing really good. He's a guy I see coming along since Day 1. His urgency, his kind of attention to detail is big. I feel like that's something they look for a lot around here...
"The grabbing will happen. I mean, playing corner and the pushing off. That's what they'll say: 'Oh, well he pushed off. That's why I grabbed!' But I mean, he's been coming along real well and it's been fun battling with him."
While secondary depth has been the Packers' downfall in recent years, if you listen to how the Packers see it, the position could be one of strength in 2018.
"You wanna talk about depth?" Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday morning. "We haven't had that much depth around here in quite some time. So you have some outstanding battles, competition that will go on throughout camp. So I'm very pleased with the way our secondary looks."
"I know last year's secondary had some ups and downs, and for him to say that, it definitely shows we're moving in the right direction," said Alexander. "It's going good man. You can tell, like, guys are comfortable out there, getting more comfortable, including myself."
But the true test for the young guys in this secondary will come Thursday, when this young secondary finally gets live reps against different-colored jerseys in Green Bay's first preseason game.

Latest on David Bakhtiari: After practice Monday, the left tackle described his left ankle sprain as "nothing catastrophic, nothing that is going to derail anything moving forward." He also called it "kind of the typical basketball sprained ankle," describing the injury as a rolling over of his ankle. Kyle Murphy has been practicing with the first-team offense in place of Bakhtiari, while Jason Spriggs is holding down right tackle until Bryan Bulaga (knee) returns to full form.
