MADISON, Wis. — After a Cinderella season, Denmark's run is over with a Division 3 semifinal defeat by Waupun.
The Warriors were led by senior guard Marcus Domask, who had a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds. Trevor VandeZande added 13 for Waupun.
Waupun capitalized off turnovers with 13 points and held a lead as big as 19.
Denmark was led by senior forward Zane Short, who notched 16 points.
"I don't think it's like a hidden factor that people didn't think we were going to be good before the season started. We were projected fifth in our conference to finish," Short said. "I mean, we got here. We knew, deep down, that we could. It was just a matter of fighting off all that outside noise and focusing on it."
"Denmark, today, they play hard, real hard," said Waupun coach Dan Domask. "We obviously were favored, there's no question about that. We couldn't escape that. But I thought we played really hard ourselves and that kept the game in our favor."
Second-seeded Waupun will move on to the Division 3 state championship game against top-seeded Martin Luther on Saturday.
