MARION, Wis. — One person was killed in an explosion and two other men have been arrested in Waupaca County.

According to the Waupaca County Sheriff's Office, a 911 call on Sunday reported that a piece of metal from a homemade explosive device hit a 44-year-old Illinois resident, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation revealed that some people ignited a homemade device that didn't go off properly. The Sheriff's Office says the metal tubing failed, causing an explosion, sending shrapnel which hit the victim.

A 38-year-old man from New London and 43-year-old man from Clintonville were arrested on Monday on a charge of Homicide by negligent handling of dangerous explosives.

Authorities are not releasing the names of those involved.
