PREVIOUS: The Oshkosh Police Department is currently investigating a robbery and identified the suspect as 20-year-old Albert Smith, according to a news release.
Authorities believe the robbery happened last night around 10:30 p.m. along the 800 block of North Main Street, police said.
A woman reported she was parked in her car when the suspect approached her vehicle and pointed a handgun at her, the news release said.
The two struggled and he hit her on the head with the gun before taking her car and fleeing the area, the news release said.
According to police, the suspect was known to the victim and it is believed that he is still in possession of a black handgun and should be considered armed and dangerous.
For one business owner a few blocks away, hearing the report was a bit of a surprise.
“Armed robbery, no. We've had robberies in town but it’s mostly gas stations over on Bowen Street.”
The business owner did not want to be identified for safety reasons of his own. His business caters to children and crime in the area is an object of concern for him.
“We’re super watchful of younger children coming in. It’s been a problem a little bit with the actual location of our business, but we adapt.”
Anyone who has information on this case should contact the Oshkosh Police Department.
