MENASHA (NBC26) — Anyone who’s ever been on a diet knows it can be challenging navigating the grocery stores, trying to find things you can eat. Freshline Keto Market is hoping to make that experience easier for keto dieters.
“Everything in here it is designed to be what we call 'keto compatible,'" said Parker Schmidt, store owner. "Everything in here, if you’re on keto, you can consume,"
From keto bagels, to frozen pizza, chocolate and chips, every item at Freshline is four grams net carbs or less.
“People don’t want to wait to get their keto things," said Schmidt. "They love to get it all in one haul. They don’t want to have to pay shipping, they don’t want to have to get big case sizes of things. So,this way in our store, you can try all different kinds of things that we’ve tried, we’ve tasted, we know is really good.“
Sean Vande Wettering first started selling keto products at the Fox River Mall. It was so popular, he was able to open the store nine months ago.
“It seemed like the need was greater than the public space could fit," he said. "We got people that come in and say, 'Oh my gosh, there’s just so much more than I expected.'"
The keto diet is a higher fat, low carb way of eating. Originally created for children with epilepsy, adults now use the diet to get their bodies to burn fat instead of carbs, effectively losing weight, said Vande Wettering.
“They’re finding so much better results, and just feeling better and telling other people about it," he said. "Because of that, I think it’s really starting to catch on.”
The store is not only accommodating keto-eaters of all ages; it's uniting them, said Schmidt.
“We’re trying to create more of a community around keto through the products and through our store," he said.
