Good news if you’ve had trouble finding a mask for you or your kids in recent weeks: Old Navy will soon make it easy for shoppers to get masks for the whole family.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises that people wear masks to help slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. They recommend choosing a cloth mask that offers multiple layers of fabric, can easily be washed and that fits snugly on the face.

Old Navy is now offering face masks that fit all these criteria. Their soft, washable, three-layer cotton masks come in a variety of fabrics, so you can ensure that everyone in your family stays safe and does their part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 — and looks fashionable at the same time.

You can get a variety pack of five masks for adults for just $12.50. Old Navy’s kids’ variety five-packs also cost $12.50. The patterns in each five-pack are a surprise, probably because the clothier is using leftover fabric to make the masks.

Each of these products is on backorder and will not ship until the middle of next month — June 16 is the estimated ship date.

However, we know that social distancing guidelines are going to be in place for the near future, so stocking up on washable and affordable masks is a good idea. Health experts caution that we may need to wear masks in public for at least another year, or until we can develop a vaccine.

“I think that you’re going to need to wear masks for as long as COVID is a threat, and COVID is going to be a threat until you have a vaccine,” immunologist Soe-Lin told “Today.” “If you read different plans for re-opening the economy, the plan is to really put a chokehold on (the virus) and only open the economy when the number of cases has fallen to a level that the hospitals can manage … but masks would still be an important thing to cut down on transmission until you have a vaccine.”

Old Navy is also donating 50,000 masks to Boys and Girls Clubs of America, as well as sending masks to healthcare workers.

Banana Republic launched masks at $20 each — with $10 of your purchase going to Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Fund — but sold out quickly. They’re back in stock as of May 13, though.
