Some of Wisconsin's younger football players took the field Saturday for a big-time event.
Throughout the day, teams in grades five through eight competed in games at the Wisconsin Gridiron Kickoff Challenge in Appleton.
Organizers say they brought 52 teams together to celebrate football, but they also want to talk about safety.
"For me as a mom, I'm always worried about my boys going out and playing," Jen Schremp said. "You hear things about concussions, and all of those things that we worry about as parents and as coaches, so we really are advocating for safer play of football."
This is the first year of the Gridiron Kickoff Challenge, but organizers hope that they can make it an annual event.
