Green Bay, WI -- Not only are gas prices at an all time low, homeowners can enjoy the lowest heating costs in more than a decade.
The warm temperatures we're experiencing so far this Winter are one contributing factor creating those low heating bills. Low fuel costs are also at an all time low generating some of the lowest Winter heating bills in 10 to 15 years.
Wisconsin Public Service says a typical residential customer is expected to pay less than $340 between November 1 and the end of March. That's down 25% from last year where the Winter bill was around $460. It's almost half of what heating costs were during the Polar Vortex Winter two years ago.
"Fuel costs are down at really almost historic low levels and they're expected to stay that way as long as we don't get a whole bunch of cold weather across the country or any other supply disruptions," said WPS spokesperson, Kerry Speas.
Here's a few tips to get that heating bill as low as possible.
1. You can purchase a set-back thermostat that can be programmed to turn down the heat while you are at work or sleeping.
2. Close off rooms you're not using
3. Open blinds to the south and west on a sunny day.
