GREEN BAY, WI---- The US State Department issued a worldwide travel alert for Americans. They say current information suggests that militants with Isis and Al-Qaida plan to carry out attacks. This is the first worldwide travel alert since December 2014. It's in effect until February of next year.
Tonight local airports are reminding travelers to use caution, but airport officials are also taking the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe.
“I appreciate the extra security, I definitely do," says Michelle Barrell who will be traveling to Hong Kong next week.
Airport officials ask passengers to be vigilant as well.
"The Department of Homeland Security program, see something say something. Citizens play a pivotal role in watching and alerting law enforcement authorities if they see something unusual," says Pat Tracey at Appleton Internation Airport.
The travel alert expires in late February.
