Woman sentenced in fatal Fond du Lac overdose

Posted

A Milwaukee woman has been sentenced to 8 years behind bars for her involvement in another woman's heroin overdose death.

Andrea Griffin was sentenced to 8 years initial confinement and 10 years extended supervision for first degree reckless homicide. The charges stemmed from the 2014 overdose death of Carolyn Tries.

An investigation, in addition to a tip from a concerned citizen, led to Griffin being charged, convicted and sentenced for her role in Tries' death.

"I offer my condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Tries and the many others in our community that have experienced the loss of a loved one in a similar fashion," said Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric Toney. "I appreciate the hard work of the City of Fond du Lac Police Department, Deputy District Attorney Dennis Krueger, and the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office for their roles in bringing this investigation to a conclusion."

Griffin told investigators she traveled from Milwaukee to Fond du Lac in August of 2014 to sell heroin to Tries, which resulted in her fatal overdose.

She entered a no contest plea in February and was found guilty.

This investigation also underscores the seriousness of the heroin and opioid problem in the community, Toney said.

"I encourage anyone that is using heroin or abusing opioids to seek help so that you don’t end up in prison or worse, dead," he said.

Griffin will begin serving her sentence immediately and has a presentence jail credit of 568 days.
