Wisconsinites split on holiday weekend traveling

Posted

Memorial Day weekend is historically a huge travel weekend for the entire country. Wisconsin is no exception with many locations in our area a destination for people around the Midwest.

However residents of northeast Wisconsin seem to be open to just staying home for the holiday weekend, especially with so much rain in the forecast.

Dale Dombroski of "The Wine Cellar" in De Pere says customers have been coming in all week stocking up on drinks for a weekend away or just to enjoy in their own backyard.

"We have people coming in and stocking up on cheese, sausage and beer and they're on their way," Dombroski said.

As the unofficial kick off to summer, Memorial Day Weekend is a chance for many to head to their favorite vacation spots or cabins to get things ready for a summer of fun.

Others say spending hours in the car with millions of other people stuck in traffic is not how they'd want to spend a holiday weekend, like William Zentmeyer:

"I've had a lot of experience traveling on the holidays and it's not fun, I'll stay home."
