Green Bay, WI--Wear yellow day in Wisconsin is tomorrow raising awareness for cancer. Schools from all over the area are teaming up with the sting cancer program to get the entire community to wear yellow showing support for survivors and cancer fighters.
Cancer survivor Jonathon Sump relied on support to get him through his cancer battle. "It was hard I got a lot of support from my friends and people from school and my whole school" says Jonathon Sump, Cancer Survivor.
Sump is a member of the sting cancer group joining two years ago during tough times. “It really brings up your mood because you realize that people in the community see what's going on" says Sump.
Nick Nesvacil started the group after surviving brain cancer while in college. The goal is to support people who are diagnosed. "I think my story helps a lot of other people going through cancer believe that they can get through it too" says Nick Nesvacil, Founder Sting Cancer.
Sting cancer has grown from just a few students here at Preble to over a hundred students across 27 area schools. "It took off into many other schools and now it's exploding like crazy" says Nesvacil.
For kids like Jonathon the group helped him believe that in every community are people ready and willing to help. "There are people that are good willed and are there to help people that get unfortunate cards handed to them like I did" says Sump.
Wear yellow day has been an official day in Wisconsin for 10 years. The group has sold over 35 thousand t-shirts supporting their cause which raises money to help people in northeast Wisconsin.
