The National Railroad Museum is celebrating 60 years on July 30th. They’ll host an event honoring its past, while publicly announcing Canadian National Railway's (CN) donation of a box car and the Museum's plans for the future: a $20 million capital campaign to support a major facilities expansion to meet the Museum's growing educational and community presence.
The acquisition of the box car is the first major rolling stock donation to the Museum in more than 10 years, expanding its unique collection of more than 100,000+ railroad objects.
The Museum's July 30th Past, Present and Future event will include reduced, $5.00 admission and free regular train rides for visitors as well as:
* 10:30 a.m. program touching on Museum history, a dedication and recognition of a newly-restored boxcar generously donated by Canadian National Railway (CN), and the public announcement of the 2016 capital campaign.
* Children's activities including Storytime in the boxcar, a rare ride in the locomotive's cab and caboose ($5.00/person), and special exhibits and community memory boards celebrating the Museum's 60th Anniversary
* New building expansion renderings for the 2016 Capital Campaign, Preserve. Educate. Inspire
Preserve. Educate. Inspire. is a $20 million capital campaign, led by co-chairs, Craig Dickman and Rob Riordan. Funding Phase I of a three-phase strategic site plan, it will include the construction of an iconic new facility that will:
* Create a sense of wonder, engagement, and iconic recognition
* Support year-round accessibility and educational programming opportunities
* Offer a new, enclosed exhibit gallery that will house and preserve ~ 70% of the Museum's rolling stock inventory
* Provide multi-purpose exhibit and educational spaces for students of all ages, which will meet our growing needs and expand our educational reach
* Offer unique and historic spaces for the community to learn, meet, and celebrate.
