The Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center is looking for beginner, intermediate and advanced ice carvers for Fire and Ice 2016. The ice carving competition will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13. A panel of volunteers will judge all ice carvings. Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded based on competitor level beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center.
Individuals as well as teams of friends and family are encouraged to compete. There is no cost to participate, and experience isn't necessary. One $50 Door County Candy gift card will be given to the carver(s) of each ice block compliments of Door County Candy, and all participants will receive a Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center goody bag. Only 15 ice blocks are available for carving, and competitors will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
Those competing at a beginner level are allowed to use hand tools only to complete their carving. Intermediate and advanced competitors may use hand and/or power tools. Hand carving tools are available from the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center for a $10 refundable deposit.
