Law enforcement is a key component of the traffic safety triangle along with Engineering and Education. An engineer can design a road that is safe for all to use. The users can be educated on how to use the road.

But anyone can still use it unsafely or illegally; that is when law enforcement becomes a key component in traffic safety.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Safety contracted with me to teach the Enforcement for Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety course in Green Bay the last two days.

The course is designed to provide law enforcement officers with the additional training they need to identify and correct behaviors that most commonly lead to pedestrian and bicycle crashes and other related issues.

This course identifies the laws to enforce to help prevent crashes for the most vulnerable user; pedestrian and bicyclists. Also laws for motor vehicles are reviewed and the common mistakes that can result in a crash with a pedestrian and bicyclist addressed.
