The Coolest Event of the Year!
Green Bay, Wis.-Thousands of Polar Plungers from across the state will be "Freezin' for a Reason" as they plunge into icy water to raise funds for Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes this January and February. Local events include:
The Watering Hole, 2107 Velp Ave, Green Bay: Saturday, January 30 @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
Seven Lakes Golf Course, Manitowoc: Sat., February 13 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
Menomonie Park, Oshkosh: Saturday, February 20 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Participants only need to fundraise $75 to experience this thrilling event. Plungers who raise the minimum will receive the official Polar Plunge long-sleeve shirt. Those raising more earn additional incentives such as towels, sweatshirts, jackets, etc.
The Polar Plunge is for everyone. Participants can plunge solo, with friends, with a team of coworkers as part of the "Corporate Challenge" or on a student team, from elementary to college, for "Cool Schools". If participants want to be a part of the Polar Plunge fun, but want to stay on dry land, they can sign up as a Frozen Fundraiser or Too Chicken to Plunge.
At the Oshkosh location, Plungers have the opportunity to also participate in a Freezin' for a Reason 5k, a Buffalo Wild Wings wing eating contest, and a Pee Wee Plunge for children under the age of twelve.
"The Polar Plunge is more than just jumping into the water, it's an event," said Matt Harper, Regional Director of Development. "We pride ourselves on having something for everyone including Frozen Fundraisers, which offers individuals the chance to fundraise without having to plunge into the icy cold water."
The Polar Plunge will take place in 14 cities across Wisconsin in 2016. Donations provide year-round programming in sports, health, education, and community building to change the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
