Wisconsin sales tax holiday: List of items that are included

Starting next Wednesday, August 1, Wisconsin shoppers will enjoy a five-day sales tax holiday.  

During this time, they will not be charged state and local sales tax on a variety of items including clothing, computers and school supplies.  

During the Sales Tax Holiday, purchases of these items are not taxable:

  • Aprons -- (including household & shop)
  • Athletic supporters
  • Baby clothes
  • Baby receiving blankets
  • Bathing suits & caps
  • Beach capes & coats
  • Belts & suspenders
  • Binders
  • Blackboard chalk
  • Book bags & backpacks
  • Boots
  • Calculators
  • Cellophane tape 
  • Coats & Jackets
  • Compasses
  • Composition books
  • Computers (for personal use -- must be $750 or less per item)
  • Costumes (not including costume masks sold separately)
  • Crayons
  • Diapers (including disposables)
  • Dresses
  • Earmuffs
  • Erasers
  • Folders
  • Footlets
  • Formal wear
  • Garters & garter belts
  • Girdles
  • Gloves & mittens for general use
  • Glue, paste, & paste sticks
  • Handheld electronic schedulers (not including cellular phones)
  • Hats & caps
  • Highlighters
  • Hosiery
  • Index cards
  • Index cards boxes
  • Insoles for shoes
  • Jeans
  • Lab coats
  • Laptop and notebook computers (must be $750 or less per item)
  • Legal pads
  • Lunch boxes

  • Paper -- including:

  • Personal digital assistants (not including cellular phones)
  • Printers (for personal use)
  • Printer supplies (for computers, printer paper & printer ink)

  • Shoes & shoelaces -- (not including athletic shoes with cleats or spikes)
  • Shorts

  • Tablets (must be $750 or less per item)
  • Underwear
  • Uniforms (athletic &non-athletic)
  • Wedding apparel

Please note:

  • All clothing must be $75 or less per item.
  • All school supplies must be $75 or less per item.
  • All computer purchases must be $750 or less per item and must be for personal use.
  • All school computer supplies must be $250 or less per item and must be for personal use.

 

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue says there are other items included in this tax holiday.
