The Winnebago county Sherriff's office is asking for your help finding the person who shot a dog in the town of Rushford.
According to the Sheriff's Department, on March 7th, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist in the investigation into the shooting of a dog in the area of 8775 Fox Lane, Omro, WI in Rushford.
The dog owner, a 78 year old man, reported that he had been walking his two dogs just north of this location in a farm field. The owner reported that he heard a nearby gunshot and called for his dogs that were running approximately 100 yards away from him to return. Only one of his dogs returned. When the second dog, Antone, did not return, the owner found him deceased in the field where they had just walked.
The dog had been shot in the head by what is believed to be a rifle round, which was instantly fatal. Antone is a black and white male 5-6 year old blue healer and shepherd mix (see photo).
Antone was shot in a hay field directly east of County Road K approximately 800 to 1,000 yards off the road, in an area not visible from the roadway.
The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public for information on who is responsible for the shooting of the dog. If anyone should have information on who is responsible, please contact Detective Jack Theyerl (Case #17-757) directly at (920) 236-7367 or email at jtheyerl@co.winnebago.wi.us Or, to remain anonymous, text “IGOTYA” plus your message to 27463
To be clear, the sheriff's department says the male and his dogs had permission to be in this field, and trespassing is not an issue here.
