Ashwaubenon, WI -- The WIAA Girls State Tournament is underway in Ashwaubenon. Some local teams play their first games on Friday at the Resch Center.
Notre Dame plays New Berlin Eisenhower at 3:15 p.m. Appleton North takes on Verona Area at 6:35 p.m.
Both teams are hoping to make it into the next round games which are scheduled for Saturday night.
This is the fourth year the competition is being played at the Resch Center.
Hotels are booked and restaurants in the area are expecting big crowds.
Leaders say the competition brings in nearly $3 million to the local economy.
Notre Dame Academy is sending off their state-bound girls Friday morning with a mass and all-school pep assembly. Mass starts at 7:30 a.m. and the pep rally is at 8:00 a.m.
