Washington D.C, Wis-- The White House denies a "We The People" petition to pardon Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach.
The petition was sparked by the Netflix Series "Making a Murder" detailing the investigation and trial. According to White House website President Obama will not grant a pardon per the U.S Constitution.
The official explanation reads, "Since Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey are both state prisoners, the President cannot pardon them. A pardon in this case would need to be issued at the state level by the appropriate authorities."
Governor Scott Walker has already said he will not pardon Steven Avery or Brendan Dassey.
