The Republican plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act moved one step closer to completion last week, but now GOP Senators are trying to craft a bill they hope can pass the Senate.
Many people with pre-existing conditions, such as asthma or diabetes, could pay a higher premium under the American Health Care Act.
Republicans want states to set up high risk pools for those with pre-existing conditions.
Governor Walker said "it's a given," and that everyone will have access to affordable health care.
ThedaCare Marketing and Strategy Vice President Jim Matheson said for the vast majority of people in Wisconsin receiving health insurance through their employer, they shouldn't have to worry about paying more for coverage.
"For those people who buy insurance in the marketplace, they did see a huge increase, significant increase," said Matheson. "We hope this legislation will help lower the cost."
The bill, which is now in the Senate, would eliminate tax penalties for those who don't buy coverage. It could cut the Medicaid program for low-income recipients, and allow states to impose work requirement for those on Medicaid.
