Weyauwega-Fremont school board approves Narcan use in emergencies

Posted
The Weyauwega-Fremont School Board approved a new policy Monday, allowing their school nurses to administer Narcan in case of emergencies.

Narcan is a drug that reverses the effects of opioid overdose.

The policy also allows authorized people like officers and firefighters to use their own supply of Narcan when responding to a suspected drug overdose on the district’s property.

Administrators say the medication will be stored in a safe and secure place on campus.

"If we were having a situation where somebody was having an overdose reaction and we couldn't assist what we could have, that would be troublesome for me. So, I would like to be prepared in the forefront".  Scott Blek, Superintendent of Weyauwega-Fremont School District.

An overdose has never occurred on the district’s property.
