Warm weather and winter recreation

Posted

The above average temperatures could be throwing a hitch in winter recreation plans.

More than 25 ice rinks throughout the Green Bay area are still without ice.

The warm temperatures and lack of snow have left area snow hills, ski trails and ice rinks closed so far this winter.

Leaders with the parks and recreation department say they aren’t worried.

“We kind of plan for that to some extent, we plan out for 10 weeks of winter season, whenever that happens. We can't control the weather so we just plan on 10 weeks at some point during the winter,” said Jeremy Crees of the Green Bay Parks & Recreation Department.

The Ameriprise ice rink on the City Deck is already open.

It is made of synthetic ice, so the warm temperatures are irrelevant.

All of the ice rinks in Green Bay, except for the City Deck location are free to the public.

Triangle Hill does charge fees for using the tow rope and inner tubes.
