The retail giant Walmart has decided to pull out of a plan to build a $12.5 million store at the site of the former dog racing track in Kaukauna.
"Up to a week ago, they had a meeting with the developer and it was a go,” said Kaukauna Mayor Gene Rosin.
Mayor Rosin then said Walmart contacted the city a week ago to inform them that the deal was off.
An attorney representing Walmart said the reason was due to a downturn in the retail market.
Walmart will pay the city of Kaukauna $100,000 as part of an agreement.
City officials say construction for a medical facility on the property will begin next year.
