Walker's football analogy for teachers draws complaints

Posted
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker's comparison of how NFL football players and teachers are paid is drawing criticism.

The La Crosse Tribune quoted Walker saying Monday, "If the Green Bay Packers pay people to perform and if they perform well on their team, (the Packers) pay them to do that." He goes on to say that the Packers, and most businesses, pay people based on performance.

Wisconsin Education Association Council President Betsy Kippers said Tuesday that Walker was wrong to suggest "our children's futures are a game to be won or lost."

Democratic state Rep. Sondy Pope says Walker's comments show that he is "out of touch regarding the educational climate in Wisconsin." Pope calls his comments are an insulting disregard of professional educators and show he is uninformed about the profession.
