Governor Scott Walker could face a steep battle in passing his 2017 budget.
One point of contention: education. Walker has dramatically increased the share of investment K-12 education will receive this budget.
He's calling for $650 million across districts statewide, including additional funding for rural districts. The budget also increases per-student funding by $200.
Democrats, remain lukewarm about what they call a "change of heart" from the Governor.
Three local lawmakers, State Representatives Amanda Stuck (D) Appleton, Eric Genrich (D) Green Bay, and Gordon Hintz (D) Oshkosh, targeted the Governor in an event in Green Bay Tuesday.
Hintz says the political landscape will be tough for the Governor. He says, "I think you're going to have a fluid debate even among Republicans in this budget. I think there's already indications that there's not enough support for every one of the Governor's proposals."
Walker will unveil his budget in an address Wednesday afternoon in Madison.
