A group ride with about 50 motorcyclists on Highway 21 near Omro turned into something very scary on Saturday.
One rider crashed and another narrowly avoided a semi truck after a dog ran across the road. The whole thing was captured on video.
"There wasn't much time to think about anything," said Travis Meyer.
Meyer can be seen jumping away from the semi after a fellow rider strikes the dog.
"From there on out it was just fight or flight," he said. "It's crazy, my helmet didn't even touch the ground."
Meyer's friend Danny Seubert caught the whole accident on his GoPro, attached to his helmet.
"I think if it was 15, 20 seconds earlier, someone definitely would've died," Seubert said.
Meyer walked away with road rash on his hand, while another rider suffered minor injuries, including bruised ribs and a bruised kidney. Both Meyer and Seubert agree the gear they wore made the difference.
"I firmly believe that if I didn't have all my gear on, I'd still be alive, but I wouldn't look like this," said Meyer.
Other riders who watched the video said there's not much any rider could've done.
"There is no reaction time because it's just that quick," said Troy Jansen, who works at Harley-Davidson of Appleton.
The motorcyclists said this could have been avoided if the dog was on a leash. The riders believe the dog died on impact.
