Victim of house fire in Menominee Co., Mich. ID'ed

UPDATE: The victim has been identified through DNA testing as Jeffrey Wayne Johnson, 54, who lived alone at the residence, according to the Menominee County Sheriff Department.

The Menominee County Sheriff Department confirms one person was killed in a residential house fire at County Road G-18 in Holmes Township, Michigan.

The incident occurred at 1:32 a.m. on Friday, January 6.

The Nadeau Township Fire Department and Menominee County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the structure fire. 

A Michigan State Police Fire Investigator assisted as well.

Authorities say an unidentified person was discovered deceased at the scene.

The Menominee County Medical Examiner has determined the cause of death was smoke inhalation. 

The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
