Local Veterans Day events happening Monday

Communities and businesses are coming together to honor those who have served. Here’s a list of local Veterans Day events happening Monday:

PDQ Car Wash will be using the observed date of Monday, November 12th to offer all Veterans and active duty military personnel either a FREE Full Service wash or a FREE Ultimate Exterior wash.

Schools in the area, including Einstein Middle School, De Pere Middle School, Keller Elementary School, and the Oshkosh Area School District already held Veterans Day celebrations.

Langlade Elementary School fourth and fifth grade students will host a program to honor local veterans at 2:30 p.m. in their gymnasium. The program will include: a wall of honor for local veterans, patriotic songs, student speakers, a performance of "Taps," educational videos about the meaning of Veteran's Day, refreshments and more. Langlade is located at 400 Broadview Dr.

MacArthur Elementary School will host a Veteran's Day assembly at 2:30 p.m. The assembly will include representation from the color guard of VFW Post 7534 and the Wisconsin Indian Veterans Association. Veterans who are relatives of the MacArthur school community have also been invited to be recognized. During the assembly, veterans will be presented with a carnation and asked which branch of service they're from and the years they have served. A short video about the meaning of Veteran's Day from MacArthur students will be shared, and students will sing two songs. MacArthur is located at 1331 Hobart Dr.

The New Community Shelter is serving brunch from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm to veterans and anyone in the community who is hungry.

The Green Bay Police Department and CH Robinson are hosting the 2nd annual "Serving Those Who Served." From, 11:30-1:00 p.m., officers will be serving veterans at Vets Manor at 2900 St. Anthony Drive.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will be hosting a week's worth of events, Monday, Nov. 12 through Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, to commemorate and honor veterans during Veterans Week.

The Friday, Nov. 16 forum includes a display by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 351 from Appleton, with equipment, uniforms pictures and music from the Vietnam era. UW-Green Bay will be collecting items for care packages at all events. These items will be donated to UW-Green Bay students who have been activated for service. Additionally, the ROTC will be raising and lowering the flag on campus and playing taps at 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day during Veterans Week. Events are open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Monday, Nov. 12, 2018: The Chancellor's Veteran Reception will be held in the Phoenix

Rooms in UW-Green Bay's University Union at 4 p.m. Rep. Mike Gallagher, representing Wisconsin's 8th District, will serve as a guest speaker at the event. The public and media are welcome to join UW-Green Bay faculty, staff and students at the reception.
