Residents at the Valley Green Apartment complex in Green Bay got some help from the Red Cross this weekend.
A fire broke out at the Shawano Avenue location at about 6:30 a.m. Sunday. When emergency crews arrived, flames were shooting out the second floor windows.
Seven people and a dog were rescued and 13 families were helped by the Red Cross, which opened a shelter at Green Bay's West High School.
The Red Cross served 31 people meals and provided a warm place to begin the “what comes next” plan on Sunday night, according to the Red Cross. Two residents remained overnight, while the rest stayed with friends or family.
Apartment management indicates it will take up to four weeks to complete repairs. In the interim, some residents can fill vacancies in other apartment buildings, according to the Red Cross.
