A 68-year-old Beecher woman was killed after a two vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Marinette County.
At 3:24 p.m. Sunday, Marinette Dispatch received a call of a two vehicle head-on crash on Highway 141 near Wishman Road and West Road in the town of Niagara, according to Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve. Two to three inches of wet snow had fallen and the highway was slippery.
Investigation of the crash revealed that a SUV was northbound with two occupants. A southbound sedan with four occupants slid across the center line and impacted the SUV nearly head-on. The front seat passenger from the southbound vehicle, 68-year-old Dorothy Toltzman of Beecher, was ejected. Toltzman was treated and transported to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, Mich., where she later died from her injuries.
The driver of the southbound vehicle was treated for a shoulder injury and one of the rear seat passengers sustained a minor injury. The driver of the northbound vehicle, Matthew Haupt, 32 of Pembine, was uninjured. His front seat passenger was treated and transported to the hospital for multiple injuries.
This crash remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriffs Office and County Coroner.
The Sheriffs Office was assisted at the scene by the Niagara fire and police departments, Niagara Rescue, Pembine Rescue, Beacon Paramedics and Marinette County Coroner's Office.
This is Marinette County's third traffic fatality in 2016.
