Firefighters are investigating a late-morning house fire in Ashwaubenon that did tens of thousands of dollars in damage to a home.
Firefighters tell us the blaze started outside the home on the 1100 block of Echo Lane Saturday morning.
Two people were inside when the fire started, but were able to escape safely before crews arrived.
The fire did spread to the attic, which crews say made it difficult to fight.
"Firefighters did a wonderful job of knocking the fire down when they first arrived," says Ashwaubenon Public Safety Lt. Terry Rottier, "and then with our assistance, our auto-aid agreement with neighboring departments, they assisted us in taking care of the situation right away."
Ashwaubenon, Lawrence, and De Pere firefighters all responded to the blaze.
Damage is estimated at $120,000.
