Freedom and Hobart-Lawrence are among the safest places to live in Wisconsin, according to a home security and safety brand.

SafeWise released its list of 20 safest cities in Wisconsin Monday, and while areas around Milwaukee and Madison dominated the list, Freedom and Hobart-Lawrence represented Northeast Wisconsin.

Freedom was listed as second safest, while Hobart-Lawrence came in eighth.

SafeWise determines the list by reviewing the most recent FBI Crime Report statistics from 2015, along with population data. It eliminates all cities with fewer than 3,500 residents, as well as cities that did not submit a complete crime report to the FBI.

Safewise then narrowed it down based on the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes, then calculated the likelihood of the crimes happening out of 1,000 people in each city.

Freedom had just 0.16 violent crimes per 1,000 people and 2.31 property crimes, according to the date collected via SafeWise.

Hobart-Lawrence had 0.15 violent crimes per 1,000 people and 5.14 property crimes.

SafeWise is a home security and safety brand that works to increase safety education, awareness, and preparedness in American communities, it said.
