A Waupaca family is opening up to the public after their daughter was murdered almost 24 years ago.

A new documentary about the murder is airing this Sunday on Investigation Discovery.

12-year-old Cora was at her grandma's house, waiting for her mom to pick her up. Her mom says she spoke with her a few times that day and told her she'd be there in the afternoon. Cora hopped on her bike at her grandma’s and went for a ride, something she and her cousins did all the time.

Unfortunately, this time was different.

Cora's grandma called her mom saying she hadn't returned home yet and that she should come now and help look for her. Her mom says Cora’s biggest fear of being kidnapped could've happened.

The search parties began to form. Hundreds of people from across Wisconsin searched through corn fields and rural Wisconsin for Cora. But the family's answer didn't come until six days later

They say after three months of investigations, the man responsible, David Spanbauer, confessed to kidnapping and murdering Cora. He also killed two other young girls: one two years before and the other, just a couple months prior.

Cora's family says every Labor Day weekend they go the spot Cora was found in her memory. They say a big group of family and friends always joins them to celebrate Cora’s life.
