Tree contests to determine White House Christmas Tree

Posted

It might be a little early to be thinking about Christmas, but the contest to pick the tree for the White House was front and center in Green Bay Friday.

Tree growers from across the U.S. were at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center to determine which tree will be picked for the White House.

The tree won't actually be cut down until November, but farmers will decide the big winner this weekend.

"It could be an open tree, it could be a tight tree, it could be skinny, could be wide, but in the growers who vote on these trees, they're typically very hard, but very similar to each other,” said Sheryl Nicholson with the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association.

The contest to select the White House Tree has been going on since 1966.
