An apparent coal train derailed over Greenfield Avenue in West Allis Thursday afternoon, closing much of the area down to traffic.
Witnesses said they heard a loud boom and turned to see the train mangled on the bridge above Greenfield Avenue.
Authorities responded to the scene and have started blocking off streets near 105 Street and Greenfield Avenue.
Witnesses also say coal is falling from the cars onto the street below, and the power near the crash is out.
It is not clear what the status of the train conductor is at this time.
