Posted

If you're planning to travel through downtown Appleton on Saturday, June 10, you might want to find another route.

The 67th Annual Appleton Flag Day Parade starts at 2 p.m. Saturday and ends around 4:30 p.m., but roadways will be closed starting at noon for set up.

The parade begins at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and N. Oneida Street. It then follows a route along W. Wisconsin Avenue to N. State Street. From there, it heads to W. College Avenue. At W. College Avenue the parade travels east to Drew Street.

For easiest travel, avoid the areas below from noon to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The following streets around the Erb Park staging area will be closed to traffic starting at 12 PM (noon):

  • E. Wisconsin Avenue (between N. Oneida Street and N. Drew Street)
  • E. Glendale Avenue (between N. Oneida Street and N. Drew Street)
  • N. Morrison Street (between E. Wisconsin Avenue and N. Drew Street)
  • N. Drew Street (between E. Wisconsin Avenue and E. Glendale Avenue)
  • E. Parkway Boulevard (between N. Oneida Street and N. Morrison Street)
  • E. Roosevelt Street (between N. Oneida Street and N. Durkee Street)
  • E. Circle Street (between N. Morrison Street and N. Durkee Street)
  • E. Brewster Street (between N. Oneida Street and N. Drew Street)
  • E. Randall Street (between N. Oneida Street and N. Drew Street)

At 1:15 PM the following streets are closed to traffic (both on the roadway and cross traffic):

  • W. Wisconsin Avenue (between N. Richmond Street and N. Drew Street)
  • N. State Street (between W. Wisconsin Avenue and W. College Avenue)
  • College Avenue (between Richmond/Memorial and Lawe Street)

During the parade the following streets will be closed to traffic:

  • Wisconsin Avenue (between N. Erb Street and N. Drew Street)
  • N. State Street (between W. Wisconsin Avenue and W. College Avenue)
  • College Ave (between Richmond/Memorial and Lawe Street)

Following the parade, the area around City Park is utilized for pick-up of parade participants and tear-down of parade units. As a result, the following streets in that area will experience higher than normal levels of traffic:

  • E. Franklin Street
  • N. Union Street
  • E. North Street
  • E. Eldorado Street
  • N. Bateman Street
  • E. Pacific Street

A bypass route has been planned for northbound motorists on South Oneida Street (crossing the Skyline Bridge). It utilizes W. Prospect Avenue and diverts traffic to S. Memorial Drive.

Northbound traffic on S. Oneida Street does have the ability to travel to the city parking ramps and YMCA ramp on the south side of College Avenue. (Currently, S. Oneida Street is closed to through traffic
between E. Fremont Street and W. Foster Street.)

A reminder to those individuals attending theses events:

  • NO alcoholic beverage carry-ins allowed at the events
  • NO glass containers
  • NO animals are allowed at special events
  • Pedestrians must obey all traffic laws at intersections around the event
  • Individuals consuming alcoholic beverages should plan a safe ride home
