Town of Peshtigo house fire displaces residents

Posted

A fire heavily damaged a tri-level house Wednesday just outside the city limits in the town of Peshtigo.

Smoke and fire damage to the single family home at N2194 Hale Road has displaced the residents, according to Mike Folgert, town of Peshtigo fire chief.

The Red Cross has arranged for the residents to stay at a local motel for at least one night, and responders are ensuring they have food, clothing, comfort items, health care and emotional support, according to an email press release from Barbara Behling, American Red Cross chief communications officer.

Officials responded to the emergency call shortly after 11 a.m. and remained on scene until after 3 p.m., Folgert said. No one was injured.

"Dogs woke a female occupant up and helped to get her out of her house," he said.

The cause of the fire is not suspicious, said Folgert, who added it started in the first floor living room in the vicinity of a sofa.

City of Peshtigo fire and police departments, Grover-Porterfield Fire Department, Marinette County Sheriff's Office, Bay Area Medical Center paramedics, Marinette Emergency Rescue Squad and Red Cross assisted the Town of Peshtigo fire department at the scene.
