TOWN OF ANGELICA, WIS. - One of the tornadoes touching down in northeast Wisconsin hit the Town of Angelica. Right now many people in that area are cleaning up after the storm destroyed several garages and barns. NBC26 was with the National Weather Service as they surveyed the damage and shares what they and neighbors discovered.
Just a few miles west of Pulaski is the Township of Angelica, a community found itself smack dead, in the heart, of a tornados path on Wednesday afternoon.
"My assumption is what ever hit us, hit us probably about 3:30," says Roger Riposki of the Town of Angelica.
Ripkoski was on his way home when he realized his community, fell in the twister’s path.
"I’m thinking to myself oh boy… Please don't let it be our house," adds Riposki.
But it was, the National Weather Service confirming the initial assumption of many who live here.
"These are kind of on the weaker end. I think maybe EF0 or EF1," says Phil Kurimski a Senior Meteorologist from the National Weather Service.
A tornado traveling at about 35 miles per hour touched down for nearly six miles running through parts of Angelica and in its wake, left a substantial mess for many.
"I went to the Bay of Green Bay, Sobieski and here and where I’m standing right here is probably the worst that I’ve seen today. But that's because this is the first tornado damage I’ve seen today. I did not see tornadoes in the other locations," adds Kurimski.
Neighbors say they saw the tornado headed south down Green Valley Road in Angelica. And while much of the damage is limited to barns and garages it's all visible right from the road.
"My garage door literally must have blown down and across… our garage door kind of took out the power lines. It was actually wrapped around the power lines," adds Riposki.
For now the cleanup is just beginning and it could be months before the Township of Angelica is back to its original self.
