With icy conditions, one of the most dangerous parts of your day could be walking out the front door.
If you notice your walkway hasn't been salted yet, try not to walk on it. Walk along packed snow next to the sidewalk instead.
Also, if it's still melting, be aware that a thin layer of water on top of smooth ice can act as a lubricant and make things even more slippery.
Try walking close to walls, cars, trees, or anything you can grab onto if you start to fall. If you are walking down stairs, keep your hand on the handrail at all times.
A fall on the ice can cause a serious injury, according to medical experts.
"It's usually an orthopedic day, we see lots of broken bones, head injuries," said Dr. Kerry Ahrens, Emergency Physician with BayCare Clinic.
If you are heading outside, wear shoes or boots with ridges to get better traction, or invest in some ice-gripping shoe attachments.
