GREEN BAY, Wis.- Debby Lefevre, United States Postal Service customer service supervisor, can tell it's Christmas time.
"The carriers are delivering between 7,000 and 8,000 packages a day," said Lefevre.
With Christmas this Friday, packages are being sent later this year than ever before.
"You're going to want to go express if you haven't mailed it out yet," said Lefevre.
With so many packages floating around, police are sending a warning to the general public.
"People need to take a couple extra steps this time of year," said De Pere police officer, Jedd Bradley.
Police suggest these four tips if you won't be home to receive your packages.
Send the packages to a trusted neighbor's house. Get a PO box at the post office for the holiday season. Send your present to the store and you can pick it up there or ask you employer if you can mail your items to your job to prevent thefts.
Postal workers say they'll try their best to keep your presents out of the wrong hands.
"You can go on USPS.com and request a hold for pickup or give us instructions as to where you want us to leave the package," said Lefevre.
Officers say many times once someone steals you items, you usually don't get them back.
"Just by calling us saying that somebody stole a package off my porch, odds are that package is going to be gone," said Bradley.
The Post Office all says the deadline to mail anything out and have it there by Christmas is Wednesday December 23. However whether you're using the Post Office, UPS or Fed Ex, you'll have to pay more for overnight shipping.
