ThedaCare announced Wednesday it will not build a new, single-site hospital, instead deciding to enhance its existing Fox Cities hospitals, including the ones in Appleton and Neenah.
For the past 18 months, ThedaCare had been exploring the possibility of building a single-site hospital. However, the Board of Trustees decided Tuesday to instead expand access and convenience of care for ThedaCare patients by renovating its existing hospitals and improving its other locations.
“We listened, we evaluated, and we now have a clear path forward," said Imran Andrabi, MD, president and CEO of ThedaCare. "That path is to enhance what we have, including the Appleton and Neenah hospitals.”
ThedaCare will start improvements immediately, leaders announced in a press release.
“We confidently make this decision, in partnership with our board, because of the tireless evaluation by our staff with input from our friends, neighbors, community leaders and patients,” Dr. Andrabi said in that release. “We are most appreciative of the time invested.”
ThedaCare currently serves nine counties through seven hospitals and 32 clinics.
